I guess KBB really doesn't mean much for older cars

Because there is no “very good” SC400 for sale for $2,300 anywhere on this planet. You have to at the very least double the budget to find one, or close to double and settle for extremely high miles.

I don’t use kbb as the absolute word of Jebus, but more and more I’m finding less correlation to actual market value once cars become over 10 years old. I remember looking up the allroad once and being like, “I wish.”

Basically, kbb is like, “you can buy this RWD V8 Luxury coupe for the price of a 1996 Camry.” Lies. ALL LIES!

Yah. Our 2002 ML is apparently worth $5,000, or 10% of what we originally paid for it. My uncle’s base 2005 Corolla, which he paid $13,000 for, is also apparently worth $5,000.

We paid more (than kbb) for our Vibe, much less for our Sable, less for the pickup, and much less for the Tercels... But based on my tastes, looks like my next vehicle will also be “more.”

Carmax doesn’t use KBB, they use Edmunds.

But... Edmunds says it’s even lower!

The Western WA market is worse than most, too. The disconnect between what people pay for decent cars and their estimated values is pretty extreme. I bought a new car last year because attractive used cars are so valuable. Coming from SoCal, I was shocked by how expensive used cars are here. It seems to be getting worse with time, too.

I know someone that bought a 2-year-old version of my car a couple months later and he paid a mere 1k less than me (and his is in far from excellent condition). His interest rate is higher and his payment is distinctly higher on a car that is older...

I feel like KBB’s model is stuck in the world of 8-10 years ago that doesn't exist today.

I was looking at KBB recently to try to figure out what kind of a deal I got on my recent truck purchase. The low price certainly gave me a lot of flexibility, and I’ve been using the money I saved and putting it towards the truck to fix it up. I’d like to know how far away I am from breaking even, and if I’m getting close to putting more into it than it’s worth.

I find myself wondering how repairs affect the value of a car, as far as KBB’s value system goes. When you type a mileage figure into KBB, does the system assume that everything on the car is original and potentially on the verge of failure? Does my rebuilt engine and transmission raise the vehicle’s value? With so many new parts, does 288,000 miles even mean anything anymore?

If you live in the northeast you can find rwd luxo barges for less than a camry. There is no demand for them and the market is flooded with them.

I've learned one thing, KBB is only for those that want to pretend their shitty car is worth more on Craigslist.

My DD 08 Fit is worth like 3300 according to them.

Carmax offered me 5k. I almost took it. High mileage, no options, and zip code.

You all ever tried another zipcode to see how much it changes?

However it does need an ac recharge($40 at Walmart) so I've accounted for that.

I have not tried another zip on this car specifically, but I have noticed that used cars in the Seattle area are just more expensive because reasons?

Also: $3300 for an ‘08 Fit??? We couldn’t find an affordable one for jack squat last year here. Behold:

lol Don’t forget the clutch kit that costs $159 from autozone! Easy, just don’t have time, and if I do it, the price will go up!

170k miles, base in silver. I think i did fair on condition.

Its got a few dents and scratches from highway driving. Big scratch on the roof from who knows what. Alot of wear in the carpet by the pedals.

Oh its a stick too. Ive used and abused the car. In 170k, normal wear stuff, a battery and a new windshield.

The other thing that blows about these 07 ans 08 Fits is the offcenter frontal crash test. Insurance went up a little because of a test for 2012 and up cars, the Fit was testwd and came out badly.

I left mylongg term insurance company over it. They raised my rate 50 a month over a test the car was tested jn, but failed. I asked how they justified it. A car designed in the late 90s, sold globally everywhere from 01 to 08. Brought to america in 07 and gets fuckes because of a test it was never meant to pass to begin with. I could understand if itwas a new model. But the 07 to 14 fits never were designed for that test but got screwed because of it.

KBB is pretty much off on everything (other than a 2012 Camry SE), and useless at this point.

It’s an absolute crapshoot. When I bought a Tercel for 300 bucks, it had 334k miles, but the engine and transmission were absolutely flawless. But I test drove an Accord once with 117k miles and it didn’t have reverse!
